The Basic Start to a Small Business’ Continuity Program
As a small company you are busy making sure your business more efficient operation at all times. You can not afford, money and resources on everything that does not necessarily need to spend to your business. Therefore, small businesses usually do not for a disaster plan. It does not seem sensible to plan money, not something that can happen to spend.
But a few simple steps can now keep in business should a disaster hit enter. You did not spend much money, time and resources to develop and implement this plan. You do not need 500 or Fortune 1000 ROB type of plan. But you need to do something on paper and tested in order to really be effective.
You must first be understood what is important for your company? In a large company this is done through a formal Business Impact Analysis or BIA. This can be a lengthy process and may operate as many groups or individuals who affect to attend any workshops or to complete a detailed questionnaire to explain their activities and areas.
You need a smaller version of the BIA. You should do your managers and executives the following minimum information from:
* What are the activities they do on a regular basis
* If you send or receive information on the activities to be completed by theses?
* What software do they use?
* Use it a special type of equipment to complete these activities?
Customer name and contact information *
* The names of the providers and contact information
* Copies of the financial information that can be stored offsite
* Contact for members of their staff
* Copies of manuals and other information they use can be read regularly that hit the spot
Once you have this information, what do you do with it?
You now need to ensure that information, copies of the software, manuals and contact information or documents are stored off-site. Much of what can be stored electronically. You probably will not have a large quantity of material will be removed, off-site, so you do not need an off-site storage provider.
They should ensure that this information is accessible 24 hours a day from you and at least two others. So, to keep on servers or your laptop is not really a good idea.
If they are stored on your servers, what if you can not get in your building happens after the event? If it is on your laptop, take your laptop wherever you go? This includes lunch, sessions, coffee breaks and wherever you away from your desk during the day.
If you can burn copies of all data to CD, then used to burn multiple copies of data changes at regular intervals and take home and one copy and give copies of the two other people to get home. Do not use a safe. These are not accessible 24 hours a day.
After this information is collected and stored off site, then you can begin, technology and reflected in the work area, you must set up to recover completely from entering your company in case of emergency or a disaster event.
Program business continuity plan should not be difficult or expensive, but it needs to be done, regardless of company size.
